DBG/400 - Free software for the AS/400 / iSeries / System i
This is the home page for my DataBase Generation utilities, aka DBG/400.
News
You'll find the latest news/updates on the
NewsPage (04 Feb 2006).
DBG/400
DBG/400 was the first free software utility I created, hence the name for the site. It consists of a number of integrated utilities that help in setting up and maintaining an environment (library, files, data areas and data) suitable for testing your applications. Read the full details on
DBG/400
Extras
I've a number of miscellaneous tools, including
WRKUSROUTQ,
PRGOUTQ,
MOVOUTQ,
CHKLVLCHK,
EXCSQL and
CRTCSVDTA that are available for download. See the
site map for the full list. I've also set up a page for
Usenet and mailing lists code samples relating to posts I've made.
About me
I'm Martin Rowe, a Senior Analyst/Programmer with
Moores, a large UK furniture manufacturer where I've been since 1992. Prior to that I worked for a software house in the Midlands, where I started my AS/400 career (back in 1990). I'm married with two young children (Ben, 12 and Heather, 10). If you're interested, have a look at our (rather out-of-date)
family album and more recent pictures (though not yet with many comments) on my
home server. My family absorbs most of my spare time (kids have way of doing that

), but I occasionally manage to get away to my two local Linux User Groups: West Yorkshire
WYLUG and York
YLUG. I'm on the committee of
Wetherby Civic Society and run the website for them. Recently I've joined
Wetherby and District Camera Club which has been quite an eye opener - the Galleries are well worth looking at.
I'd like to get a more local Linux group going, so if anyone is interested in a
Wetherby Linux User Group I'd like to hear from you.
Mailing list
There isn't a specific mailing list for DBG/400 - just email me direct if you have specific questions/comments.
There is a list for Open Source Software on the AS/400 / iSeries / System i where you'll find updates and announcements on these and other utilities available from a wide range of OSS projects. The list also serves as a platform for discussion on licensing issues, project ideas, and anything else (on topic) related to iSeries OSS. Joining is easy: just head on over to the handy subscription page over at
Midrange.com - OSS400. Do join in and get involved

Credits
- A big thanks to my boss for allowing me to publish this in the first place
- John Ross of http://www.netshare400.com for providing me with a free iSeries account available over the Internet. See more details on my NetShare400 page.
- David George of 400times.co.uk for reviewing (favourably
) DBG/400 in his excellent AS/400 e-zine - sadly a victim of too much to do and too little time, now no longer updated.
- I've used some of Tom Liotta's free commands in some of my utilities - Thanks, Tom
Check out his 'Sharea' site http://zap.to/tl400
- http://foswiki.org for providing such an excellent platform for web content development.
- ...there are more individuals and organisations I'm grateful to, for producing excellent software and/or for providing great web resources. Hopefully I'm giving something back via the site. See the following links page for them and more.
Links
...are on the
LinksPage. Let me know of any other sites you think should be mentioned here.
